Dxo Photolab 2 Fujifilm: A Comprehensive Review of the X-Series Camera

The recent release of PhotoLab 6.5 has brought significant improvements to Fujifilm X-series cameras, specifically with regards to noise reduction and denoising algorithms. The introduction of DeepPRIME and DeepPRIME XD has opened up new possibilities for photographers to capture high-quality images in challenging lighting conditions.

One of the primary concerns when using these advanced algorithms is maintaining image quality while minimizing noise and artifacts. In our tests, we found that the standard DeepPRIME algorithm produces excellent results, but can sometimes give a somewhat unnatural, waxy appearance, particularly in areas with fine details such as feathers or eyelashes.

For example, in a tightly-cropped shot of a duck's head taken with an Fujifilm X-S10 at ISO 3200, we observed that the standard DeepPRIME algorithm resulted in a crisp image with restored fine details, but also introduced some noise and artifacts. However, increasing the sensitivity to ISO 3200 and using the HQ denoising algorithm improved both noise reduction and detail retention.

In another test, we used the same camera to capture an image of a duck's head at ISO 2500, this time with no denoising applied. The resulting image showed significant noise and false color artifacting, despite the X-Trans color filter array. However, using DeepPRIME XD algorithm resulted in a much better job, producing a cleaner image with minimal artifacts.

The new algorithms are available in PhotoLab 6.5, which also includes support for Fujifilm X-series cameras. To test these algorithms, we converted raw files from our Fujifilm X-T4 review at ISO 2500 and processed them using PhotoLab 6.5's 'DxO Optical Corrections only' preset.

Our tests show that DeepPRIME gets on well with X-Trans imagery in the real world, producing excellent results even at high sensitivities. By using the right combination of algorithms and settings, photographers can achieve stunning images with minimal noise and artifacts.
